Hello,
I have recently setup a new drafting PC with AutoCAD 2006 and
SurvCadd 2006. Everything is a fresh install with all service packs /
updates installed too. (I think I installed Acad and it's updates /
service packs first before installing SurvCADD.) We seem to have some
quirky problems we've never seen on any other PC. At first, when you would
switch from a SurvCADD menu to the Acad menu (using the Menu icons) you'd
get double toolbars (two instances of the same toolbar). When you'd delete
one of them you'll be missing that toolbar when you switch back to one of
the SurvCadd menus. Also, when you try to add toolbars (right-click in the
toolbar area) you won't see some toolbars listed in order to add them. If
you have the Acad menu up you won't see any SurvCadd toolbars to add, and
when you have a Survcadd menu up you won't see Acad's. Carlson Tech
Support said to install AutoCad's CUI patch - but that didn't fix it.
After numerous removals, re-installs, repair installs, registry scan
repairs, etc . . . it appears that the "double toolbars" issue is fixed.
However, the customization problem still exists.
Like I say, we have never had a problem with installs on any other PC. The
only major differences between this PC and the others is that this is our
first AMD based PC (it's an "ABS" purchased thru www.newegg.com). It's an
ASUS motherboard with built in Nvidia video (6150 chipset). I refuse to
believe that being an AMD is the problem. There don't seem to be any other
issues with Windows XP or any other software (the PC runs way faster than
the brand new Dell P4 we just bought). Note: that I did initially have a
RAM problem while doing the initial installs (the two "dual-channel"
sticks were not 100% identical - have since switched for 2 that are). I
have also since updated the motherboard's BIOS, chipset drivers, and video
drivers.
Anyone else seen similar problems? How about those of you running AMD
based PC's? If you've had the problem, how'd you fix it?

You don't need the CUI patch if you have SP1 installed. They should have
known that.

But that is beside the point anyway. Granted, the CUI fiasco doesn't
help anything, but I can't see anything different that was done in
SurvCADD to workaround some of these problems.

IMO - they should load the SCAD stuff as partial menus on top of
ACAD.CUI and create workspaces for each module. This way there is no
"menu switching" going on (which AutoCAD and the CUI seem to have
trouble doing)

Anyone else seen similar problems? How about those of you running AMD
based PC's? If you've had the problem, how'd you fix it?

This has nothing to do with your processor.
