Text Mask

I'm using Carlson Survey - 2007. ACAD Express Text mask works fine with
Dtext and Mtext, however when I attempt to mask annotations made with the
ANNOTATE commands the text is covered by the mask and seems to disappear.
Strangly this affedcts Bearings, distances and line numbers (L1, L2, etc)
but not the curve numbers (C1, C2, etc).
