Sections keep overwriting each other

Postby JAMES » Mon Nov 13, 2006 7:48 pm

Does anyone know of a way to draw a section more than once without it
being erased?

I am trying to generate cross sections at odd stations along a stream. I
have been experimenting with different methods of drawing them to see what
gives me the best result, but I can't compare because SurvCADD keeps
blowing the old ones away. Even if I copy them, it deletes the copy too.
It doesn't seem to matter how I try to make the sections: if I try to do
one by points, then another by polyline, the points one gets blown away. I
name them differently, I create them using different methods, yet somehow
SurvCADD is still associating them with one another and only allowing one
to exist at a time.

Somewhere there's got to be a check box for "Don't erase old sections",
but I'm not finding it. I know it exists for other commands. Help, anyone?

(this is in Civil 2007)
In the "Draw Section File" Dialog, the third line from the top is
"Link Sections To Files". If this is set to AUTO it would behave as
you describe. It can be set OFF or to PROMPT.

Thanks, but I tried that, it has no effect. My understanding on the
linking is that it is an option to link the sections to the surface model,
so that if you change the model, the sections are updated automatically.

Another user here tried to duplicate my problem, but he's using SurvCADD
2006 instead. He can draw all the sections he wants with impunity and none
get deleted. I can't draw more than two (of the same section). Neither of
us get, either in a command prompt or a dialog box, an option to keep old
sections. You do when you draw profiles. Why not sections?

On my machine, it would do as you say when set to PROMPT or ON.
It would do what you are asking for when set to OFF.

I wish it worked that way on mine. It doesn't do anything here.
