I'm a new Carlson 2009 user. So far I'm impressed with most aspects, but have a problem with conversion of SDR files. It seems the conversion to RW5 and the editor leave out certain types of SDR records. For example, a Backbearing record in the SDR, might be represented by this code:
11KI19991996180.000000
This is occupied point 1999 backsight 1996 azimuth 180d 00' 00". Carlson seems to ignore this line, or ignores the backsight point number and azimuth. It's hard to tell, since it does show a BK line in the RW5 editor, but there is no backsight point number and the azimuth shown is 00d 00' 00" instead of 180.
It also seems to ignore 07SC (set collection begin) and 09F1 or 09F2 (traverse direct and reverse) when angle only is measured, and possibly others. Also, the editor seems to mangle slope distance and AR to a second point of two in a traverse set, somehow averaging the two values and substituting for the raw values for the second point.
Basically, I regret to say, it seems the RW5 translation is a mess. Has anyone else had these problems or am I doing something wrong? I am sorely tempted to write a Perl script to do the translation myself. SDR files, for all their unreadability, are at least consistently coded.
Any help is appreciated!
