xrefs images on server

Postby Fazekas » Mon Nov 03, 2008 7:52 pm

We are having a problem with carlson crashing if we try to attach an image or xref off of a server. If it is on the local computer, it works fine, but on a server, crash. Any thoughts out there.
Thanks

XRef on Server

Postby cujo » Wed Nov 05, 2008 2:32 am

We have a small office with 8 seats of CS2008.
The only file I'll let anyone keep local is an orthophoto which can be up to 150MB.
All xrefs and drawings are on one file server and everything is referenced by the network drive.

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I know sometimes it can be helpful to hear that something does work, in trying to find out why it doesn't.

I can't tell if your drawing is local with the xref on the server ... if that's the case, consider putting all on the server and see if that changes anything.
Take care,

Rich

Rich,
one question:
Is your xref path set? Is it ( \\ Server) or ( S:\ Projects). We are trying to see if maybe the difference between the paths might be the problem.
Thanks,

XREFs-Server

Postby cujo » Wed Nov 05, 2008 10:03 pm

When we attach the X-Ref we call up the file from the server using the network drive S:\xxxx and it looks like that when it lists the path in the XREF window.

Not sure if it is a speed thing, but might want to consider testing a 1000 network connection if you happen to be running a 100 speed (not sure of the right units to use in describing the speed. ). We recently upgraded our switch(s), then made sure all the CAD systems had a full speed network card (updated them if not) and it made a noticable difference in opening and saving files. Nothing will be as fast as a local file, but it works great.

Good luck.
Take care,

Rich
