Anyone know a way to update point elevations using a surface

I have an aerial survey file with contours and spot shots (no unforunately I don't have the 3d triangle lines) and I can create a Carlson surface and tin file from it. I also have a file of tree locations without any elevations and I'd like to link the points to the surface so I can give the client a rough elevation for his tree catalogue. Any ideas?....
