To hatch or not to hatch, not to hatch so far.

Postby Del Schwanz » Tue Aug 29, 2006 10:14 pm

Hi, I've been messing around with Carlson 2004 and can't seem to hatch
anything. We're import a .dxf into Carlson, then save it as a .dwg and make
modifications to work towards a final drawing. Problem is that I can't get
anything to hatch. I've tried selecting objects, selecting points in objects
and creating circles from carlson, but no luck. It selects the objects I
want, takes me to the dialog box, says it's previewing and the screen looks
exactly the same. I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jared

Right-click to accept hatch

Do you get any error message on the command line?

There is an environment variable (MaxHatch) that must be set to a higher
number if things fail to hatch (due to a large area being hatched at a
small scale)

I don't think you can set this at the command line like you can in
AutoCAD --> (setenv "MaxHatch" "1000000")

You can set it in the registry though. Call Carlson and have them walk
you through this if necessary (unless of course they have provided an
alternate way of modifying this setting)

Del,

You might be having the problem that I've seen many times.

When the hatch or area that you're trying to hatch is very far from 0,0,0 it
seems to mess things up. I found that if you set the snapbase near to the
area that you want to hatch it takes care of the problem.

Just type "SNAPBASE" at the command line and pick close to the area that
you're wanting to hatch. If you've already placed a hatch and it looks
kinda strange you will have to replace the hatch.

I hope that helps.

have you tried changing the scale factor, may be too large so any hatch

components are scaled so that no part of them appear within the area you
hatch

as a test use quick select on the properties bar and select object type
hatch, select all and see if it finds any hatch objects

Hi Andrew-
Thanks for the help. I did as you said, and I'm pretty sure it says the
objects that I'm trying to hatch are supposedly hatched. How do I readjust
the scale factor? Is it like ltscale? I change that for each .dxf file
that I import, but that's the only scale I mess with. We're very learning
disabled when it comes to autocad/carlson here at the office, so I need
explanations and steps so I can distrubute them to everyone else. I also
changed the snapbase to be close to the center of my drawing, but no
difference. I also thought I should mention that we don't have any problem
hatching any drawing we create in Carlson, just the ones we build from a
..dxf file. Thanks again. Jared

Have you tried the snapbase command mentioned earlier in the thread?
