COMPAQ COMPUTERS

Postby Jeff Smith » Mon Dec 03, 2001 1:27 pm

Guys do not purchase and attempt to make a living on Compaq Computers. The call I hate most is from a surveyor who has purchased a Compaq. I will not be able to make the machine run effeciently and you will
(WILL MOST CERTAINLY) crash and lose data. They compile their own version of windows and do a poor job at it. The dos emulator will lock up. Compaqs even are able to crash on their own startup screen. Save yourself some heartache and avoid Compaq like the bubonic plaque.

I have a Compaq at home; However, I bought it cheap, upgraded it immediately, and FDISK'ed it to install Windows98 fresh, about a week after I purchased it.
My take on this is, like Jeff said, Compaq's version of Windows is sooooo watered-down with their garbage that half of it conflicts with the operating system.
I've had 2 or 3 Compaq's in the past at the office-- all of them having the same types of problems mentioned before. We almost always had to re-format and install NT to eliminate these conflicts.
BUYER BEWARE!!!

Absolutly right on Chuck and we have not even mentioned the nomeclature and cost of the COMPAQ replacement parts. COMPAQS parts most often cannot be replaced without buying COMPAQ parts due to their refusal to use standard nomecalture. I get sick to my stomach every time one of you says to me on the phone "NEW COMPAQ"<br

The biggest problem that I see with Compaq and CG, is the later. CG Dos uses alot of mem so you have a hard time with some of the applications. As far as Compaqs go I have been running Compaqs for years with no problems. There was a minor setback when I recently upgraded and when I contacted cg tech support they blaimed it on compaq, but as it turned out it was just cg programming and their useless block. I worked through the problem like usuall without tech support help. I like cg but you software guys hate all hardware guys it's like the dems against the republicans get over it and just make your software better
