Customizing Carlson survey

Postby Christian Medders » Mon Jun 07, 2004 8:33 pm

I know it is kind of late but there is ways that Autodesk has left in the
Autocad engine to customize Calson survey.

You can copy the acad.pgp to support and rename it surv.pgp and it will
recognize all your short cut commands, and you can add customized menus to
your surv.mns file that will allow you to add pull down menus for custom
blocks, extra.

Thanks,
Christian Medders

Sorry this was meant as a reply to a previous question about acad.pgp

I am running Carlson Survey xml.

I can copy the surv.agp to post so you can use it.

Yes, But we will be upgrading to cs2004 soon, so I will get the opportunity
to try it then, as far as the custom menus in the mns file there is not a
reason that should not work even if the .pgp file does not. Did you rename
the .pgp file to surv? I am including in this text my lines in the mns for
my short cuts and customization in the mns, they are out of the different
sections.

When you add these to your Surv.mns menu file or something that is your own
cutomization they will run inside of your oem engine. Even the Image tile
menus. In the .pgp file you can also call up outside programs, like other
data transfer programs, Mapping programs like Topo USA for Vic Maps, NGS
data sheets, Etc. In the Mns File you can also Put under Help websites that
pertain surveying that you use all the time such as The Gis website we use
here, or the Magnetic Declination Site on line. The way I have set it up
here is that the custom menus above are the standards that need to be on the
plats, the way I will sign and we have conistencey with the drafters, and It
also makes life alot simpler when we bring new people on board. The Learning
curve is greatly reduced when all they have to do is pick the irftxt button
and it inserts the correct text and asked them for the size. Adding the AUX2
Button to the menu allows the person to hold shift and right click to bring
up the symbolshort menu in the middle of their screen for quick picks of
scale or corner text, they can pick the image tile menu from there for more
indepth text and blocks. The script file does work also, so there is even
another way you can customize, the we use here cleans the drawing by purging
all and inserting the current template dwg. Giving them the latest dim
style, txt style, layers, etc.

I know this was long but this is just the tip what you can do with this
little $1495 program.
Oh ye, are you with carlson or another surveyor?
Thanks.

Actually, there is a very good reason. It is Autodesks' intention to not allow any customization on an OEM product. I suspect that if 2000i allowed these additions, that someone figured it out and fixed it for the 2004 version.

On the .pgp file you have to rename it star.pgp not surv.pgp, I went back
and looked at my files. The surv rename is for the Autodesk field survey
product, the star rename is for the Carlson product, you have to rename the
file to match what your .mns file is. Try that is should work. As far as the
2004 version, I am fairly sure that it is going to work. I will let you know
when I get my carlson survey 2004. The most times the files themselves have
script in them to tell you how to customize that file. after all, it is core
Autocad. :)

Ok, I tried it in 2004 and it works, except you have to figure out which menu to modify, since Autodesk decided to become "XP Compliant"....

What I meant is AutoCAD OEM is at is core Autocad. Even LT at is core is
AutoCAd, even though it does not run .lsp, etc.
