Guys,
I agree with all the items that are noted, to be added to the program.
It would make point manipulation a lot easier. With this in mind, I do
want to mention at least one existing way to specify a selection set in
SurvCADD CES. Under the edit pull-down, the very last command, "Select
by Area", could be helpful to you until we are able to incorporate your
suggestions. You can specify a window or crossing selection using an
inclusion polyline or by simply selecting the entities from the screen.
To accomplish your example process listed below, I created a selection
set of points by using this command and selecting a crossing window
selection of points. After this, I used the change properties command,
and then "p" for previous and changed the layer of the points in the
selection set. Then I isolated the points, again by pressing p for
previous, and specifying retain point layers. I set a new coordinate
file, updated the crd file from the drawing and then chose to export an
ascii file. All this was completed in less than 30 seconds. Also, if
you were concerned with points withing a certain elevation range, the
draw locate point command now has a locate within coordinate range
option. Using this option, you could locate the points within the
desired elevation range, create a new crd file if needed and then write
the ascii file. Again, this is just to help you until the items you
have requested can be explored and incorporated into the program. I
hope you fine this somewhat useful and by all means, keep the
suggestions coming.

Subject: Re: SurvCADD CES selection set
I would like to add that the methods of selecting nodes in Survcadd
should
be the same for all its commands. There are times when I need to select
points from the screen for certain commands. A few commands allow
entering
of range of points only. Ocassionally, I isolate certain point layers
and
need to create either an ASCII file or copy them to another "temp"
coordinate file for uploading, but can't be done because I need to enter
the
range of points, which may vary.

I'm a former Eagle Point user. They had a individual command called
"select
nodes" that would allow the user to make a selection set from point
number
selection, point range, screen selection or special criteria
(Description,
Elevation, Proximity or Block). The select nodes routine would allow
users
to use an Autocad command with previous selection set. Therefore,
users
could change properties of the selected points, such as its layer.
These
ways of making a selection set were available at all command prompts.
The
following is how special criteria were selected:
For exact description at command prompt: desc=wv
For like description at command prompt: desc=wv*
For proximty at command prompt: prox (then asked for point of
proximity,
which could be a point number or selected, then it would ask for
radius,
this would provide a set of all points within a radius of a point,
good
for
making a point lists of points around a computed property corner to
see
what's been found)
For elevation at command prompt: elev=999999
For block at command prompt: block=spt4
These methods of selecting points were greatly missed by me and many
others
that converted from Eagle Point.

Geoffrey, if you don't mind providing some more
input.....
Would you prefer that this command filter:
a) An initial screen selection ?
-or-
b) The current CRD file ?
Thanks, and if you have any more suggestions, let
us know.

I mentioned this a while back but since it was
not added to SurvCADD CES,
i'll ask again.
Would it be possible to add a feature to CES
that would allow the user to
create a selection set of nodes based on the
following criteria:
Range of node numbers (this appears to have been
added via '2 '3)
Node Descriptors for a range of node numbers
Elevation Range for a range of node numbers
Example: I want to make a selection set of all
nodes containing the
descriptor "WV" starting with node number 1245
and ending with node number
1365.
Now once I have created this selection set, I
would like to be able to
call the modify nodes routine and be able to
adjust height, rotation, etc.
Thanks
