Spot Elevations

Postby Jack G » Tue Oct 15, 2002 3:22 am

SurvCadd CES, ACAD 2000, WIN98

Is there a way to pick spot elevations on the TIN or any other 3d linework,
where I can choose the symbol, text style and size. Spot Elevations under
the Site menu is not what I'm looking for here. I do not want a point
either. I need just an "X" with an "ELEV" for an attribute, and for the ELEV
to automatically assume the picked point elevation on the TIN without asking
me if I want to. I need to leave PNTELEV layer turned off, so a point block
will not cut it. Help!!

Jack,

The "Spot Elevation" routine in SurvCADD XML does exactly what you want
except that it adds an "X" and a TEXT entity - not an attribute. I'm not
sure at the moment if you can do this with CES. If I find a way, I'll let
you know.

Sounds like that routine is exactly what I need, as long as it will use the
elev of the spot I pick AND I can control the number format, i.e. 95.4
instead of 695.4, number of decimal places, etc.
Is there a routine like this available for CES? I've been following the
newsgroup for problems in XML (for possible upgrading) and it appears I
would have to upgrade all our seats, due to the fact coord files in XML are
not usable in CES after processing with FTF. FTF in CES apparently cannot
process an XML file. Did I read that newsgroup item correctly? What is the
upgrade price for XML?

Coordinate (.CRD) files are completely portable betewwn CES and XML (and all
other versions for that matter). What changed was the format of the Field to
Finish (.FLT) file. In the case of mixed versions (CES and XML) you would
only have to maintain separate .FLT files. This is not really a concern
since the only way to upgrade is to purchase maintenance, which in turn
includes upgrades for ALL your licenses. The cost depends on the number of
modules and the total number of licenses that you have. I'll email you
Monday when I'm back in the office.
