SURVCAD XML Create grid from TIN file?

Just looking at SurvCad XML demo. I have a 1:24000 quad that has 2d
polyline contours. I have used the triangulate and contour routine to
triangulate from the contours. I now want to lay a grid file over the
triangulation file. I do not see where you can do this. It appears that
you need to actually have some objects in the drawing that you select to
create a grid file from? Do you need to plot the TIN in the drawing then
select that? Is selecting the contours the only way? Thanks, JRL

I do not know of a direct "covert TIN to GRID" command. Therefore, one does
need to create the same model as a grid as you did for the TIN. I tend to
use the original data (same objects used to create TIN) rather than plot and
select the TIN. The exception would be when I have "tweaked the TIN" using
"swap triangles" and such. The "make 3d grid file" command internally
triangulates (among a couple of other modeling options).

Still trying to plot a grid file. I created a grid file from my 2d
contours. I specified a 20'x20' grid and let it run. It created the grid
fine. When I go to plot the grid AutoCad crashes telling me that it ran
out of memory. What can I do to get this to work? I believe there are
4,000,000 cells. Is that too big? I am running Win 2000 Pro, AutoCad Map
2000i, Carlson SurvCad XML, 46Gb free space, 512Mb RAM. Virtual Memory
is set to 4000Mb. I'm trying to push this program into doing something
that I know is bigger than I would normally need. That way I kind of
know the limitations before buying. Thanks, JRL
