XML2 upgrade help

I'm using XML on AutoCAD 2000i and I have just purchased XML2. I will still
be using 2000i, not upgrading to 2004.

I've spent a lot of time customizing my 1. toolbars & toolbar icons, 2.
drawing template with all of my SurvCADD configurations, layers, etc... and
3. Field to Finish codes.

Is there an easy way to save all of that when I upgrade to XML2??

When you install XML2 make sure it installs into a seperate folder. You
can then use Windows Explorer and sort the files in the old folder by
date and see what was customized. Then copy them to the new XML2
folder, but don't copy *.MN* files because that will mess up the new
menus. I'm no help on toolbars, I gave up on those years ago.

Roddy, toolbar content is stored in the *.MN* files. You will have to manually copy the toolbar sections out and paste them into your new menus unless you followed the persistent toolbars procedure (which isn't on the web anymore http://www.carlsonsw.com/ptoolbars.htm ).

To avoid this problem in the future, create your own MNU file with your toolbars and icons, etc., in a separate folder (like "C:\ACADCUSTOM"), then when you upgrade or move to a different machine or even change software, you just add that path and menuload your custom menu.

Definitely, placing custom toolbars and icons in its own path is the way to
go. Once I learned how to do this, every time I reinstall or upgrade getting
my custom toolbars to work is a snap. Thank goodness I haven't seen those
smiley faces in a while (knock on wood).

Here is a link from the autodesk web site that is similar to the page that
used to be on the Carlson web site. It describes how to keep your custom
toolbars seperate from the rest of the menus and can be move to new
workstations or in our case a new installation of XML2.
