Report Window columns...

Postby Surveyor » Wed Nov 10, 2004 3:23 am

Is there a way to get the columns in the report window to line up? For
instance when I issue the "layer report" command, the layer properties
don't line up in a neat fashion. Is there a way to include a comma
between the items, so I can at least take the data into Excel for a neat
print out? JRL

Maybe use a monospaced font?

For a professional looking layer table, give up the internal "layer
report" and download LayerHTM at http://www.dotsoft.com/layerhtm.htm
(unless you already have ToolPac, then it's included)

Naw, font won't fix the problem, basically it is putting the properties
right after the layer name, if the layer name is longer, the next
property, just gets shoved over more to the right. Thanks for the
advice. JRL

Alrighty then, so you saved a txt file. right? (if not do so) Open the
txt file in excel and the "Text Import Wizard" pops up on
step 1 of 3 make sure "Fixed width" is checked and the at the "start
import at row" arrow up until line 3 (or where ever the Layer Name starts)
next
step 2 of 3 there should be the columns all set up if not move them
around to where you like them
next
step 3 of 3 make all of the columns "text" otherwise the numbers don't
line up
Finish
select all, Format, column, autofit
save it as a Microsoft Execel Workbook file otherwise next time you open
it you'll have to go through all steps again

It gets easier the more you do it
good luck,
Kris

Thanks, I think that probably will work if I keep my layer names short,
my problem was a mix of long and short layer names. JRL
