DTM - Breakline

Postby Ray » Thu May 12, 2005 7:15 pm

How can I create a breakline for a building footprint so when I generate
contours they don't go accross the building instead I want the contours
graded away from the building which is on a hill?

Also do I need to create a breakline for a swale if I want the contours to
show the shape of the swale?

Draw a 3d polyline around the house with the vertices at each elevation at
corner of house

Yes, you will need a breakline to shape the swale. That's what a breakline
indicates, change of grade.

Thanks Jason

Is there anyway I can edit a 3D polyline?

I am trying to change the elevations at some 3D polyline vertices.

I created 2D polylines for a curb from surveyed points. I have points at BC
(bottom of curb) and TC (top of curve) but these polylines cross each other
at different points because of the way the points were surveyed.

So I broke these two 2D polylines and made them parallel as they should be
for a curb then created a 3D polyline using the "draw 3D polyline" command
and I followed the new 2D polylines but the problem I am having is that the
resulting 3D polyline generated some vertices with incorrect elevations way
off base, for example between two vertices with elevations: 101.19 and
101.23 it created an elevation of 106.7!!! and therefore when I generate
contours using this 3D polyline as a breakline it creates some weird
contours.

If I try to draw a 3D polyline with follow I run into the problem that my 2D
polyline have many vertices more than the require 2 (beginning and end) to
use this command.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

you can highlight the 3d polyline and use your properties box to cycle
through the vertices and change there elevations.

I would connect the shots with a 2d polyline, then convert them to 3d by
using the "2d to 3d polyline by points" routine, then use polyline utilities
to offset a 3d polyline to make the bottom and gutter pan. You may need to
use polyline utilities routine "remove polyline arcs" to create little
chords on arcs, since you can't make a 3d arc.

You may want to check out Edit Polyline Vertices (editpl) rather than
properties. It allows you to edit by slopes...or at least see the slopes as
you edit the elevation.

Thanks guys.

I was able to edit the elevations along the 3D polyline then offset it using
the offset 3D polyline to create the top of curb.

The contours generated now are correct.

I would create the building pad using the Add-A-Pad routine. It will draw
the breaklines for you. JRL
