2006 interface

Postby Don Reichle » Tue Sep 13, 2005 9:17 pm

Hey Folks;

I'm to be interviewing tomorrow for a job. I've been using Eagle Point in
the late 90's and switched over to Land Desktop around the end of 2001. I've
become fairly expert with LDT in the last 3 years, and have been following
the development of Civil 3D with great interest. The firm I'm interviewing
with tomorrow uses Carlson, and that's why I'm here.

If there are any old LDT users here I have a couple of questions for you.

How much different is Carlson from LDT? And will I miss it?

I looked through the software catalog on-line last night, but now I would
like to get the Users advice.

I noticed a couple of names I've seen before in the Autodesk site, so I'm
hoping that some may have seen my name from time to time, and can chime in
to help me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Don,
We dumped LDT for Survcadd about five years ago. To me, LDT never lived up
to the promises. C3D might turn into something in a few years, but I did
not, and do not have money or time to waste. LDT is not missed.

There are little differences like names of commands or the execution
sequence. The big difference might be LDT using a central database and all
the AEC objects vs Survcadd's individual files and regular AutoCAD
entities. there is a Huge difference in Survcadd's favor with "bang for
the buck" and tech support.

If you have an open mind and do not expect Survcadd to be LDT, you will
probably be fine. You may have to let go of "king of Work-Arounds" and
just be "King of work" though ;) Ever thought of moving to northern
California?

Hey Don, glad to see you here.

Personally, I don't think it will take you long to get your "title"
reestablished here. We just switched from LDT as well and find it very
refreshing to say the least. But, SurvCad still runs on the Acad engine,
therefore, there are still issues to be resolved. I noticed your post
concerning a Menu-CUI problem and was glad to see you jump right in with
both feet. Keep up the excellent work.
