Newbie Needs Help

Postby Raziel » Mon Jun 27, 2005 4:18 am

I just got survey04 and I'm having a hell of a time with some very simple
things.

For instance, there arn't very many symbols or line types included. You'd
think a survey package would come with the generic symbols used in survey
drawings. Am I just missing them? Is there a place to go and download them?

The other thing that keeps getting me is the lack of commands to deal with
lines. I can't extend two lines to an intersection without abusing the
extend comand and clicking a dozen times. I know there HAS to be a command
for this. Also, where the heck is the command to set the length of a line?
I know I'm missing some list or toolbar or menu somewhere. I just hope
someone can help me find it.

Thanks,
Raziel

Raziel,
In the menu go to POINTS>POINT DEFAULTS . Press the SELECT SYMBOL
button on the left side of the dialog box to get to your symbol library.

From the commandline type LINETYPE to set your linetype. Press the
LOAD button for more options.

The CHAMFER command will allow you to extend two lines to their intersection
and the EXTENDER command will allow you to set the total length of a
polyline.

I hope this helps.

Take note; the frustration will continue. I acquired Survey 2004 last
spring, and it was only through bothering Lon and Barkley that kept me from
burning my computer. There are good at helping, but one tip that I got from
them that helped a lot on my own was to get a copy of the AutoCAD Bible, or
some sort of manual. I had no previous AutoCAD experience, and thus was not
familiar with some routines that they just "expect" you to know. There are a
lot of hidden commands in the software that you will not find in the on
screen help file.Try "dimstyle", for instance. Or "ltscale" in paper space.
This sets your lines so they actually come out dashed on the plot, instead
of all lines solid. On and on.......
