Points

Postby John Macolini » Thu Jul 26, 2007 5:05 pm

This happens every so often:

Some time after I've created my points in the dwg, they somehow become
separate entities. Meaning that the X, the point number, the node,
description, etc, all are separate.

I made a block when the Pointno layer was frozen, and now I see the point
numbers back where they were, but the actual points somewhere else.

Maybe there's a simple fix. But I didn't separate these things. It did it on
it's own.

I'll live, and will figure it out. But sometimes this software does some
stuff that really makes me question it.

John,
I find that when I work with points a lot, I have to save often. If I
don't, I get a wonderful Fatal Exception...
As far as your problem, there is a way to separate the entities under
"Points -> Point Defaults". Is that checked? I leave all those unchecked.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about making a block with it frozen,
and then seeing the actual points somewhere else. My understanding is
that if you leave the previous options unchecked, then the points are in
a block themselves.

So I am wondering, are you putting point data into blocks? I think that
will cause trouble no matter what settings you have. Also, are these
fresh drawings (i.e. not from another firm, AutoCAD program)?

Points are definitely the trickiest things to work with in this program.

Doug, I save very often too.

I never check the separate layers box. And this happens after my points
have come in. They're fine, but some time later, it's like they decide on
their own that they'll suddenly become separate entities and not let me
know - unless I'm doing it somehow without knowing it.

This never happened in CS2004 to me. I actually prefer CS2004 over CS2007,
except for the crashes. Which still makes me a little disappointed in
Carlson for never fixing CS2004 - and just expecting to be paid for the
upgrade to fix it.

Check to see your Attribute Gouping option is set to "Group on" - hold down the 'Ctrl' and 'Shift' keys and press 'A' - this will toggle the grouping on and off.
