SurvCe 2.0 Leica 1201 WRONG Mini 360 Prism Const.

Postby bridgesurveys » Wed Mar 12, 2008 11:20 pm

I got a new mini 360 prism and in the prism constant select screen I selected mini 360 4.4 and this is wrong the prism const should be 30.0mm whats up with that? what are people using when using a mini 360 prism. To fix this I hand entered in 30.0mm? This seems like this could be a big mistake for a small company.

The 4.4 is a net offset. By default the Leica is set to -34.4. If you use a -30 prism, the net offset is 4.4 which is what that is set for. If you are setting -30, you are setting it incorrectly.

From the SurvCE Manual

"Here is the list of standard prism offsets.
Note that Leica prisms default zero to equate to -34.4 mm. So a prism
offset of 34.4 equals a zero "net" offset. Whenever a prism constant is
changed, a note is written to the raw (RW5) file. When you select one of
the prisms from the list (Circle, Mini, etc), THE VALUE THAT IS SHOWN IN
PARENTHESIS IS THE ACTUAL VALUE SET TO THE INSTRUMENT. i.e. 0.0 for
Circular, 17.5 for Mini, 4.4 mini(360). If you select "30mm" or "40mm", we send - 4.4 and
5.6 respectively (30-34.4 and 40- 34.4). The user may also type in any
value they choose. In this case, we will send that value exactly,
unmodified, to the instrument."

There does appear do be some discrepancy with our label on the mini 360 prism and I will have the programmers take a look and see what is going on. We will let you know something as soon as we hear from them.

The programmers report that this only a text label issue with the mini 360 prism. It should read (30MM) mini 360. They advise that the offset is correct and that the text will be changed in the next release to display correctly.

wrong mini 360 prism constant,

I think you should have another talk with the programmer. I shot between two known control points today. The inversed horizontal distance between them is 11.344m, If I select 4.4 360(mini)I get a H.D. of 11.319m error of 25mm. If I hand input in 30 in the selection screen I get 11.344. The top of a leica mini 360 prism says +30mm. I really think this is a big problem and if anyone else is using a mini 360 prism beware or tell me what you are doing.

I did speak with the programmers and they are working with Leica to try and resolve the situation.

So is there a problem or not? I am convinced there is, If you agree maybe you should let other users know that don't read this board of the issue and to look out as this might be a problem for them. Thanks
