Survey 2008 no longer will import into ZAK file FIXED

Postby BigBlockRanger » Thu May 22, 2008 8:40 pm

I don't know what has changed. One day it works fine and now it's jacked.

It will create a ZAK, but when you go to import points or attempt to store new points, it will add 1 point, then crash. It's really really getting old.

Any ideas? I uninstalled it and reinstalled it w/o any luck and that makes me think it is a computer issue....

:?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

****************Edit**************

it spits out this:

Error 2: Could not open file: Z:\{path}\{filename}.ZAK
it might be read-only or in use by another application or be invalid.

and sometimes something about ZAKADS

I set the configure default to use a .zak file, created a new zak file and imported an ASCII file to it. I then did draw locate and located several points with no issues. Can you explain the situation further. Is it only 1 particular file? 1 particular drawing? Are these similar to the steps you used?

No particular file. It will use an existing ZAK file as a coordinate file just fine, but I can't add points to them any more.

The default setting seems to make no difference.

It will:

Create a new ZAK file
Use an existing file as a coordinate file

It will not:

Allow you to add any points to either a new or an existing ZAK file. Actually it will let you add 1 point (thru screen pick, enter and assign, etc), then it will give me the error.

It seems as if it is not closing the ZAK file correctly after adding a point.

I remembered this computer still has Survey 2007 and SurvCADD 2006 (all for AutoCAD 2006) still installed and as a check I attempted the same thing in 2007 with the exact same results as the 08. However 2006 completed the operation just fine.

This is a recent occurrence with 2008 as it had been running fine with no issues for quite some time. This leads me to believe it is a computer problem of some sort. But I do not know where to start looking for what is causing it.

I may try resetting my computer back to a different restore point an see if it corrects the issue.

Here's what I have learned:

Carlson apparently has a problem with Security Update for Windows XP (KB950749) that was recently installed on this machine. If I uninstall that update, Carlson works like it should.

I have no idea what all is contained in that update or if it will be a prerequisite for future XP updates, but for now I am back in business. The update seems to have affected others using Access 2000 databases as well.
