Alphanumeric points in Carlson survey

Postby lath_slinger » Wed Jun 18, 2008 11:36 pm

Buenas Tardes,

I am processing a topo in a standard format carlson project, using field to finish. we shot auto topo points on this survey and our leica rover codes these in the following format: a0001.... and so on. So, these points in addition to my manual topo shots, coded numerically are in the same ASCII file (.csv), and I would like to bring all of them into the drawing. now, I initially ran field to finish on all my manual shots, then realized that the auto topo points didnot make it in the point import file. I went to the
SETTINGS menu to CARLSON CONFIGURE to GENERAL SETTINGS, wherein you can select the carlson coordinate file format to read and accept alpha numeric points. This accomplished, I found I was still unable to re import the file containing our auto topo shots, and bring them into the dwg. My inquiry is whether I have to create another .crd file with the alphanumeric points setting already specified (ie start over), or if the changes I applied after the crd file was created should be taking place, and I am missing some other small step along the way. Either way, I could use some clarification on when to make configurations setting changes to the crd file and if they should take effect immediately. Any thoughts????
Thanks for reading... Lath_slingadero

I might also add, that this is in carlson '08...

A little easier way is to use Coordinate file utilities. At the top it shows the coordinate file path and also shows if it is numeric or alphanumeric. If its wrong just use CONVERT CRD FILE FORMAT button and pick the conversion to carlson alphanumeric. Nava Ran is correct though, the setting in configure only applies to new files created and doesn't convert the old ones.
