Fatal Error when using field to finish Survey 2009

Postby todbiker » Mon Mar 23, 2009 9:00 pm

Anytime I try and use field to finish, it boots me out with a fatal error. Have tried erasing the fld2f ini file, moving the entire project off our network and onto my desktop, same results. The software is loaded on each machine's harddrive, only the licenses are controled by the network, but others have had issues with Carlson running slow with the project files on the network drives.
I've had the fatal error using field to finish before, usually after I've had to correct multiple field codes and redrawn it several times. Usually i don't suffer from the slow perfomance. Erasing the F2F ini worked in the past, but not this time.
Our IT tech has totally reloaded the latest version of Carlson and Autodesk with no luck. I jumped on another workstation and it runs F2F fine, but it does run really slow when importing points, almost to point of locking up.

Anybody else ran into this situation

2009 Field to Finish Using Point Groups causing Fatal Error

Postby todbiker » Fri Apr 24, 2009 3:16 pm

I received a response from a user at the time of my original posting indicating there was a coding problem within the fld2fin ini file causing problems using points groups. Carlson said it would be addressed in a patch or new build, but at this time there's no new build or patch. To clarify the problem. I process a file with field to finish and then use point groups to filter out what draws correctly and address only the problematic field codes I've corrected in the CRD file. In the past I ran into fatal errors when repeatedly running F2F on the entire CRD file, so I started using points groups to avoid this. It seems this is a 2009 issue because this strategy worked in past versions. The fix was to erase the fld2fin.ini file and the corrupted file became usable again. I can still do this, but once you process F2F with a point group, it brings back the fatal error the next time you attempt to run field to finish.
