slow saves & frequent lockups

Postby mapep » Tue Jul 28, 2009 12:59 pm

Any one else having difficulty with frequent lockups and the slooooow saves of Survey 2009 intellicad version? :( It seems to me that the BricsCAD version of Intellicad is much more stable. :)

That has been my experience until recently. The latest patch is a significant improvement. I have found several external problems which have contributed to the functioning of Intellicad. The most significant was a clash with my virus scanning product.

To test this take yourself offline from the net and then turn off you your virus scan. If you find the program operates without some of those annoying crashes, contact your support for VS product. I finished up changing products but I still went through some significant teething problems with the new VS. In retrospect I wish I had persevered with the original VS. It is often just one setting requiring a change. These VS products are getting bigger, hungrier and more invasive.

I suggest you take advantage of the support offered through Carlsons. I have found them to be very helpful. Fill out the crash reports when you have the chance, it all helps them improve the product. I have been using 2009 Embedded with very limited use of Intellicad over the last 15 months. Now I happy to use the Intellicad for most operations.

Colc, Thanks for the info. One thing I have done is to turn raster based images off. I also remember from the BricsCAD forums that AutoCAD compress files on saves and intellicad does not. When you open the file, A'cad decompresses it. This was about 5-6 years ago and things may have changed. I'd still rather use intellicad than AutoCAD and have taken advantage of Carlson's maintenance/upgrade offer.

I am having the same experience, awfully long saves. I guess this is due to saving of the various Carlson database files, .crd and so on. I have been using Bricscad to do most of my drafting and Carlson for whats required for surveying and design. I'm sure that they will soon figure out how easy it would be to port their Acad code to Briciscad and give us a great christmas present.
