Detail/coordinate help

Postby liam82 » Tue Jan 12, 2010 2:51 am

Hello,

Just after some input on a technical issue im having. Apologies if this is a basic/simple question, but I am used to other software

Basically i'm trying to process a detail. The station coordinates are in an arbitrary system and I need to change them to match the traverse which is in MGA. These then need to be applied to the raw detail data. Can this be done and if so, what is the best process to use? Or should i be doing this differently?

Thanks in advance

Liam

There are several ways to transform your data. If the data is in your crd file you can use Translate Points then Rotate points or use Align Points. These options have several options such as Point groups, override or create new points. I am not sure which version you are running, but a note of warning make sure you check the points to be moved before you choose OK. The screen (certainly in earlier versions) would default back to the full range of points. There is an undo for any incorrect adjustments. There is also a scale points if you wish to adjust all the points to MGA.

In the raw data editor you can insert the same commands for a range of points. I find this is not so user friendly but in could be useful if your data is in the Raw Data format. Go to the Raw Data Editor open your file and go to add select Cogo command.

If you wish to continue working your job in MGA you can go to the drawing setup and select MGA as a projection. It will calculate the combined scale factor as well. I have found small differences with SF compared to the SCIMS from NSW Lands Department. It has not been a signficant concern for to date but one to keep a check on. You can select Ground to grid and vica versa. When you then use inverse the ground and grid distance are shown. As well, this is a particularly useful function if you wish to lay your drawing over Google Earth. This is a function which is very iimpressive and very simple.

Enjoy exploring the options.
