Collector Connector  (CC37)

Importing & Exporting Coordinate Files using a RECON or Carlson Explorer

"Sight" Survey is capable of importing/exporting coordinate files from/to a RECON or Carlson Explorer without using Collector Connector.  While the procedure is basically the same regardless of the data collection software used, the remainder of this discussion relates specifically to data transfer using a Recon running TDS SurveyPro software.

Downloading from the Recon:

1.  Export points to a .TXT file, using a Comma as the Delimiter.  The file format should be set to Name, N, E, Z, Description.

2.  Start Microsoft ActiveSync on your desktop/laptop computer and connect the Recon to the computer using a USB or serial cable.

3.  In ActiveSync, click Explore and navigate to the folder containing the ASCII file.

4.  Copy (drag & drop) the data file from the Recon folder to your computer.

5.  In "Sight" Survey, select File>Import Coordinates.  Find the downloaded ASCII file and click OK.

6.  In the File Format scrolling selection box, select the file format as Lewis & Lewis (this is a simple comma delimited P,N,E,Z,D format)

7.  When your data appears in a spreadsheet format, click Accept to finishing the importation process.

8.  To see the points in the Drawing Window, type PP to do a Point Plot.

Uploading to the Recon:

1.  In "Sight" Survey, select File>Export Coordinates.  Give the data file a name with a .TXT extension and click OK.  (Pay attention to the folder location.)

2.  When you are asked to choose a file format, select Lewis & Lewis.

3.  Select the points you want to export, or "A" for all.

4.  Start Microsoft ActiveSync on your desktop/laptop computer and connect the Recon to the computer using a USB or serial cable.

5.  In ActiveSync, click Explore and navigate to the folder containing the exported .TXT file.

6.  Copy (drag & drop) the data file from the computer to data folder on the Recon..

7.  In TDS SurveyPro, select Import Coordinates.  Select the uploaded .TXT file.  Set the layer to Points and the delimiter to Comma.  Verify the file format is Name, N, E, Z, Description and load the file.
