Contour It (CI17)
Cannot Compute a Volume
If you are having trouble generating valid volume calculations, the problems often stem from one of five sources:
1. Incomplete Field Data - The problem of incomplete field notes can be rectified by having a survey crew revisit the site.
2. Bad Borders - Bad borders may be corrected by editing your border points using the Edit > Borderroutine.
3. Bad Breaklines - In order to properly triangulate your data, you may need to add breaklines. Use the Edit > Breaklinesroutine to modify the offending breakline.
4. Non-Overlapping Files - Contour files that do not overlap, or overlap only partially may be your problem. Contour It! cannot compute volumes on non-overlapping files, and only the volume in the overlapping areas is computed.
If your problem is caused by different coordinate bases, use “Sight” Survey’s Coordinate Transformation (CT) routine to translate one file to the same base as the other. Don’t forget to re-contour the translated file before computing a volume.
5. Surface files must be in the same folder - Both of the files being used to compute a volume must reside in the same folder.
