LegalEase (LE02)
Changing the Default Editor
The default editor that LegalEase uses when the Process a LegalEase File (PL) routine is run, is setup during the installation of LegalEase. If you wish to change the editor that was specified at installation, you can: 1. Manually edit the COGO.INI configuration file located in the C:\SightSrv\Program folder; or 2. Set the path in "Sight" Survey under the Config>File Paths Configuration Menu (KF).
HINT: It is often easiest to place a copy of the editor you are using into the C:\Sightsrv folder. For example, if you are using Microsoft Word, place a copy of the Winword.Exe file into the Sightsrv folder. Then, in the instructions below, your path to the editor becomes C:\Sightsrv\Winword.exe.
Method 1: Manually edit the COGO.INI configuration file
To edit the configuration file open the Windows Explorer program and
double-click on the COGO.INI configuration file located in the C:\SightSrv\Program Search for the following text: LEEDITOR. If the text is found, simply replace the text to the right of the equals sign with the full path, filename, and extension, for the new editor that you wish to use. If you wish to use the LegalEase built-in editor, simply change the line to read LEEDITOR=FALSE. If the search text is not found, add the following line to the end of the file: LEEDITOR=filename, where filename is replaced with the full path, filename, and extension, for the editor that you wish to use.
Save the changes and exit. Now when you run LegalEase, the new editor will be used, provided that the program can find the editor that you entered. If the editor is not found, the built-in LegalEase editor will be used.
Method 2: Set the path in "Sight" Survey under the Config>File Paths Configuration Menu (KF)
In "Sight" Survey, select Config>File Paths Configuration Menu or type (KF). The File Path configuration dialog box will appear. Using your mouse, highlight the contents of the text field labeled LegalEase Editor. Type in the complete new path and file name and click OK.
A Word About Long File Paths and File Names: "Sight" Survey does not recognize long path or file names. As a 16-bit program, you are limited to eight (8) character names. In Windows, special considerations must be made for long path and file names. Generally speaking, a file or path name longer than eight characters is shortened to the first six characters, then the tilde (~) character, then a number.
For example, suppose you want to use Microsoft Word as your default editor in LegalEase. The Word program file, Winword.exe, is usually found in an Office folder under a Microsoft folder under a Program Files.
C:\ Program Files (13 characters - shorten to c:\progra~1) Microsoft (9 characters - shorten to micros~1) Office (6 characters - okay as is)
Winword.exe
Putting it all together gives you:
c:\progra~1\micros~1\office\winword.exe
