"Sight" Survey  (SS113)

Export a Coordinate File containing Alpha-numeric Point Numbers

None of "Sight" Survey's supported export file types allow for the export of alpha-numeric point numbers.  When you attempt to export alpha-numeric numbers, "Sight" Survey converts alpha-numeric point designations to simple numeric number, and you are given a translation table of the results.  If you need to export a fully alpha-numeric list, here is a method you can use, incorporating the use of Microsoft Word.  You can probably accomplish this task with most word processors but the following instructions are specific to Word.

1.  Use the List Coordinates (LC) routine to list the points you want to export into “Sight” Survey’s Text Output window.

2.  Use your mouse to highlight the point list in the Text Output window.  You may have to scroll (or press PageUp) to the top of the list before highlighting.

3.  Once the list is highlighted, press <Ctrl><Insert> to copy the list into Windows memory.

4.  Open Microsoft Word and press <Shift><Insert> to paste the coordinate list into Word.  Press Ctrl-A to select (highlight) all the text.

5.  In Word, select Table > Convert > Text to Table and select the option to Separate Text at Tabs and click OK.  This will put all the text into a spreadsheet format.

6.  You now need to delete unused columns and lines.  Most likely, the 1st & 3rd column will need to be deleted, as well as every third line.  To delete a column, move your mouse to a point just above the column then move it slowly toward the column.  When the mouse cursor turns into a down arrow, left-click the mouse to select the column.  Press <Shift><Delete> to delete the column.  To delete a row, move your mouse to a point just inside the left border of the left hand column on the row to be deleted.  When the mouse cursor turns into a down arrow, double left-click the mouse to select the row.  Press <Shift><Delete> to delete the row.

7.  When all the blank columns and rows have been deleted, click the mouse once anywhere inside the table, then select Table > Select Table to highlight the whole table.  Now select Table > Convert > Table to Text and select Separate Text with Commas and click OK.  This will produce a comma-delimited list.

8.  To save the file, click File > Save As.  At the bottom of the Save As dialog box, change the option Save File as Type to Text Only (.txt)  Give the file a name with a .txt extension and click Save.  If you need to have a different file name extension, you will need to use Windows Explorer (or double left-click My Computer) to change it.
