"Sight" Survey  (SS116)

"Floating Point Invalid" error in Truectrl.DLL occurs when exporting or importing an ASCII Coordinate File

Under certain conditions (including ALL Windows vista installations) "Sight" Survey may return a Floating Point Invalid error when you are attempting to export a coordinate file.  We have seen this occur only when running under Windows XP, however we are not sure of the cause, nor are we sure the problem is limited to Windows XP.  Logic would indicate it may also occur under Windows 2000 or NT.

The error occurs immediately after you enter a target filename and click OK.  After reporting the error, "Sight" Survey shuts down.  We suspect the error may be caused by invalid window coordinate values.  These are not your coordinate values, but rather the values pertaining to the actual position and size of "Sight Survey's working windows.

We have been able to work around the problem as follows:

1.  Close "Sight" Survey (if it has not already shut down)

2.  Open My Computer (or Windows Explorer) and go to Drive:\SightSrv\Program, where Drive is replaced by the drive letter where the program is installed.

3.  Delete the file COGO.Ini.  If you cannot see the file extension, just delete the file named COGO.  It may be identified as being a Configuration file.

4.  Reboot and try exporting again.

Note that we have deleted the file containing your "Sight" Survey window arrangement.  You may have to manually rearrange your windows to your personal preference.

Work Around:  If you continue to have problems, click here to download a copy of COGO File Converter.  Load the software, then use it to import / export ASCII files to / from "Sight" Survey files.  A documentation link is also provided on the page.
