"Sight" Survey (SS53)
Some Routines Don't Work, or Strange Errors Occur
The BWCC.DLL file is a commonly-used Borland control library which determines the way pull-down menus and pop-up windows are handled. "Sight" Survey uses the version dated April 20, 1994, which has a file size of 154KB. If you have an older version of BWCC.DLL on your computer, you could experience numerous mysterious errors, including any of the following:
1. Double-clicking on text in the Drawing Window locks up the program or doesn't display the Text Entry dialog box.
2. Double-clicking on lines or arcs in the Drawing Window locks up the program or doesn't display the LineStyle dialog box.
3. Selecting the Draw > Text routine (or typing TL) locks up the program or doesn't display the Text Entry dialog box after clicking on the Drawing Window.
4. Selecting the File > Plot Drawing menu option (or pressing Alt F,L) doesn't display the sub-menu containing the Fit to Page and Plot to Scale options.
5. Selecting the Config > Conversion Settings routine (or typing XG) doesn't display the DXF/DWG Conversion Settings dialog box.
6. Selecting a drawing routine from a pull-down menu (or typing the equivalent routine code) doesn't display the dialog box that is supposed to appear.
7. "General Protection Fault in CCSLIB.DLL" error occurs upon loading or while running "Sight" Survey.
8. "General Protection Fault in Zak.Exe" error occurs upon loading or while running "Sight" Survey.
9. "Illegal Function Call" error occurs upon loading or while running "Sight" Survey.
10. "MAINCAD General Protection Fault" error occurs while loading or while running "Sight" Survey.
If you experience any of the above problems, you will need to find the old BWCC.DLL file that is causing the problem and replace it with the file that "Sight" Survey requires. Use the Search > Files or Folders routine in Windows NT, 2000, ME, or XP, the Find > Files or Folders routine in Windows 95 or 98, or the File Manager Search routine in Windows 3.1 or 3.11. If you prefer, within a DOS Shell session you can type: DIR C:\BWCC.DLL /S, repeating the command for each hard drive partition (i.e. C:, D:, etc.)
Normally, DLL library files are contained in the Windows\System (or WinNT\System) folder, but some programs will install their version of the BWCC.DLL file to the Windows (or WinNT) folder. When these programs are loaded (or when Windows is loaded) it will look in the Windows (or WinNT) folder for the BWCC.DLL file. This causes problems in "Sight" Survey because an old version of the file is in memory.
If you find a BWCC file that is not dated April 20, 1994 or the file size is not equal to 154KB (Windows) or 157,472 Bytes (DOS Shell), you should replace it with the file we have supplied. Instead of deleting the other BWCC.DLL files, we recommend that you rename them to have a different file extension such as BWCC.XXX. This keeps the files intact in the event that another program needs a specific version of this file. However, most software is forward compatible with the version that we supply.
Once you have renamed any older files, copy "our" version into the folders containing the older files. If the BWCC.DLL file was not in use when "Sight" Survey was installed, our version of the file was placed in the folder. If the correct version of the file is there, you can simply copy it. If you couldn't rename a BWCC.DLL file because it was in use by another program, you will need to exit Windows 3.1 or restart the computer in DOS mode if you are using Windows 95 or higher. Rename the file that was in use and copy "our" version into that folder.
If the correct file is not in the Windows\System (or WinNT\System) folder, you must reinstall "Sight" Survey. If an error occurs while starting Windows, bypass the error and continue. When the installation is complete, update the folder containing the old file, then restart Windows. (If a BWCC.DLL file existed previously in your Windows folder, then copy the BWCC.DLL file from the Windows\System (or WinNT) folder into the Windows (or WinNT) folder.)
