"Sight" Survey   (SS61)

Copied a Job from a CD to the Hard Drive, but now can't save it

"Sight" Survey cannot use CDR or CD-RW media in a read or write operation.  The Microsoft Visual Basic and Access versions used by the software do not allow it.  Load/Save operations must be directed to the hard drive, a floppy disk drive, a removable drive such as a Zip drive or Jaz drive, or to a Smart or Flash Memory card.

You can archive jobs to a CD by using Windows Explorer to drag and drop the files from the hard drive to the CD. When copying a job, make sure you copy all the necessary files.  Sight Survey jobs basically consist of two files: jobname.zak; and jobname.drg  You may see several files beginning with the same jobname.  These other files are backup files, and sometime also legal description and contouring files.  You may want to copy them all.

When you want to use files that are (or were once) contained on a CD, you must first copy the files to the hard drive.  Prior to opening the job you must reset the Read-only attribute of the file, which by default will be turned on.  Use Windows Explorer to find the files on the hard drive.  Right-click on a file then left-click on Properties on the menu that appears.  Uncheck the Read-only attribute at the bottom of the Properties window and click OK.  Repeat for each file with the same jobname.
