Printing to an HP Printer over a Peer-to-Peer Network

 (Error printing to HP printer over a peer to peer network)

 

 

Operating Systems:

Windows 95

Windows 98

Windows 2000

Windows NT

Windows XP

 

Hardware:

HP Printer (accessed through network, not local)

 

Sometimes when "Sight" Survey prints across a network to an HP printer. the system may show an error message, no message or a hard lock of the system.

 

Resolution:  Windows 95, 98, ME

You must capture the printer port for the HP and assign it to a dummy LPT.

 

To capture printer port:

Go into the Printers menu. Start > Settings > Printers

Right-click on the problem printer.

Choose Properties

Click on the Details tab

Click on Capture Printer Port…

At the Capture Printer Port window in Device select the LPT 7 or higher

At Path select the computer that printer is located at.


*If there are problems with the above way, try this:

Double click on Network Neighborhood

Double click Entire Network

Double click the computer with the shared printer

Right click on the printer

Select Capture Printer Port

Resolution:  Windows NT, 2000, XP
