"Sight" Survey (SS28)
Rebuilding a "Sight" Survey Job from a Damaged File
Why Rebuild a Job? In only a couple of occasions, a "Sight" Survey user has reported that he has not been able to print from the text output window, and attempting such locks up the computer. After verifying (and correcting, if necessary) the HighEdit margin (format=) settings in the C:\Windows\Simplcty.INI file the problem still exists. (see Print Preview Locks-up the computer, and Print Text Locks-up the computer)
In this case, rebuilding the data file using a combination of cut & paste, and coordinate export techniques will solve the problem which seems to be related to some invisible formatting within the text output window.
The procedure to rebuild a job is shown below. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK and BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST! If you are not comfortable using this procedure, you may email us your Jobname.Zak and Jobname.Drg files and ask us to rebuild them for you. (NOTE: Jobname is not the actual name. You need to substitute the actual name.)
1. Load your job.
2. Select File > Save Job As. Save the job as BADJOB. You should now see the new filename in the Sight Survey title bar.
3. Select File > Export > Coordinates. Give it a filename of BADJOB.ASC and click OK.
4. Scroll down in the File Format list and click on Lewis & Lewis, then click OK.
5. In the Export Coordinates box, type the letter A to export all the coordinates, then click OK.
6. Right-click your mouse in the Text Output window. On the menu that appears, left-click Select All.
7. Press and hold the Ctrl key, the press the Insert key and release both keys. This does not appear to do anything, but it actually copies the text output window contents to the Windows clipboard.
8. Select File > New Job, but DO NOT save your work.
9. Select File > Import Coordinates, then select or enter the name BADJOB.ASC and click OK. Click NO when asked, “Do you want point overwrite protection?”
10. In the File Format list, select Lewis & Lewis, and click OK. The data will import into the Edit Coordinates box. Click Accept.
11. Right-click in the Text Output window. On the menu that appears, left-click Select All.
12. Once again, right-click your mouse in the Text Output window. On the menu that appears, left-click Delete Selected.
13. Press and release the Insert key to activate an edit mode in the Text Output window. Now press and hold the Shift key, then press the Insert key and release both keys. This will paste the contents of the old text into the window.
14. In the Drawing window, select Start > File > Load Drawing and select (or enter) BADJOB.DRG. Make sure the box labeled, “Files of Type” shows CADControl DRG. Your old drawing will load.
15. Connect data, text and drawing into a new job by selecting File > Save Job As. Save it under the name GOODJOB.
16. Select File > New Job, but DO NOT save your work.
17. Select File > Open Job and load the job GOODJOB. Verify that everything is there, and that you can print the contents of the Text Output window.
18. Only when you are totally satisfied that everything is okay, you can select File > Save Job As and rename the job as your original data file. You may want to make a backup copy of your original data file first, just to be safe.
