"Sight" Survey   (SS46)

Can't Print from the Text Output Window, or...

Print Text Locks Up the Computer

This type of problem may manifest itself in one of several ways:

Windows Vista:  "Sight" Survey cannot print a coordinate list or print the Text Output window under Vista due to an incompatibility with the HighEdit word processing engine used in the Text output window.  This issue cannot be fixed.  To work around this issue, Use a PDF file driver  (SS44)

Case 1:  File > Print Text locks up the computer, but only on one job.  Other jobs print correctly.

The text output portion of your job file has somehow been damaged by the addition of unprintable, and invisible formatting characters.  We do not know what causes this, but your job can be rebuilt and restored with a little cut-and-paste magic and a simple file export.  See the document:  Rebuilding a "Sight" Survey job from a damaged file  (SS28).

Case 2:  File > Print Text locks up the computer on every job or just doesn't print.  File > Print Coordinates may or may not lock up the computer.  (Read: Can't print a Coordinate List  (SS45))

This condition may occur when using Sight Survey on a Windows 2000, XP, or NT network.  It is almost always limited to the use of a Hewlett-Packard printer, or the existence of an HP printer on the network. The problem may be solved by methods outlined in the following documents:

Printing to a network printer  (SS38)

  Troubleshooting Windows printing problems  (SS39)

Printer Port capture in Windows NT and 2000  (SS42)

Printing to an HP Printer over a peer-to-peer network  (SS43)

If you still cannot get your printer to print text from Sight Survey, you can use install and use a PDF driver in place of your printer.  See the document:  Using PDF file drivers  (SS44)

Case 3:  File>Print Preview locks up the computer.

See this document:  Print Preview Locks-up the computer  (SS71)

NOTE:  One "Sight" Survey user said he had success printing by saving the job immediately prior to printing from the Text Output window.  We have not been able to duplicate and/or verify this error and potential solution.
